Everyone loses data at some point in their lives. Your computer’s hard drive could fail tomorrow, ransomware could hold your files hostage, or a software bug could delete your important files. If you’re not regularly backing up your computer, you could lose those files forever. When it comes to ways to back up your data, from using an external drive to backing up those files on a remote server over the Internet.
MiniTool has recently released its latest backup software, MiniTool ShadowMaker 3.2. Regarding the fact that backing up is right, there is probably no need to convince anyone. Backups provide peace of mind and allow for a quick return to the state before a fault. However, the question remains where to keep backups? One thing is certain - certainly not where the original files, but it still does not give us any specific proposal.
It depends only on what you will benefit from and what you care about. For most, cloud synchronization will be enough.
For others, it may be valuable to save subsequent copies, the default version, and the file. It is also worth creating a system restore point or image before any major change. Then you will be simply secured. Let us look at what alternatives we have.
Internet
Unfortunately, the sad truth is that there are not so many alternatives. We can divide them into two main categories. The first is the internet. Storage of data on the Internet can be done in two ways. The first is the so-called virtual disks. This is an excellent proposition for all people who want to have constant access to their files. The virtual disk works a bit like a pen drive, except that we do not have to insert anything into the USB, but only turn on the appropriate page. We can find many of such virtual disks in the network, e.g.:

- SkyDrive
- ICloud
The second option when it comes to data storage is to buy a server. Access to files is a little more complicated here, but the level of security and privacy is slightly higher.
Portable Media
If the data is not stored on the network, we can store it on various storage media. The upside (but also the downside) of such a solution is that the data is not in any way connected to the Internet, so the risk of interception is only from a local level. Unfortunately, because of this, we also have access to data only if we take the carrier with us.
Plate
A somewhat forgotten storage medium. However, it is well suited for storing photos or movies. However, remember not to buy the cheapest discs, which are quickly destroyed (so we can lose data).
Portable Memory
Currently the most popular medium. We always have memory with us, and we have access to all files at any time. We can also add new files and delete old ones quickly and easily. Importantly, we can protect the USB stick with an access password.
External Drive
The last suggestion is an external hard drive. It can have an enormous capacity, reaching up to several terabytes. Unfortunately, now the price of such disks is very high.
Everything that I described above, as where to save backups, treat as optional items and additional information that will help you securely save backups, speed up or improve the backup process, protect important data against unauthorized access. You decide which of them can be useful for you.
