Uvault®, a web and media hosting services provider specializing in secure streaming, is bringing the first real time closed caption capture and delivery solution to computers, tablets, and mobile phones via their Wowza based cloud computing network. Uvault is working jointly with CPC, the leading closed caption solution provider, to develop the technology needed to comply with the FCC’s new mandate calls for all live and near live broadcasts on the web to include close captioning by January 2013.

With the FCC closed caption mandate, broadcasters need to make adjustments to their existing infrastructure and ensure they have the ability to deliver closed captioning to multi screens with the growing number of playback devices in use. Uvault and CPC are working to create a solution that meets the demands of the industry, allowing broadcasters to easily add closed captions online, while simultaneously offering a smooth integration with their existing closed caption infrastructure work flow. The process to deliver closed captioning online developed by Uvault and CPC involves three steps. First, the closed caption retrieval device extracts the closed captions from the source video and passes it to the computer running CPC software. Then, the CPC CaptionMaker® software sends the closed caption data to Uvault. Finally, the Uvault Hosting CDN distributes the video and close caption data in sync to Flash players and Apple devices.
